The danger of traditional non-stick coatings
Traditional non-stick coatings are generally composed of PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances). These are chemicals that make everyday cookware resistant to water, grease, and dirt. PFAS degrade very slowly, which has earned them the nickname "forever chemicals."
During the production process, PFAS end up in the environment, the food chain, and ultimately in our bodies. People with high blood levels of PFAS are at greater risk of immune system impairment and health problems such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, fertility issues, and cancer.
Thermolon™, the original healthy ceramic non-stick coating
We didn't want pans with unhealthy non-stick coatings. So we started looking for an alternative. In 2007, we introduced Thermolon™ to the world, the original healthy ceramic non-stick coating. It's not made from plastic, but from (a derivative of) sand.
Thermolon™ was the first alternative to traditional non-stick coatings, the first plastic-free non-stick coating, and the first non-stick coating made without PFAS. In less than 15 years, we became the market leader in healthy non-stick cooking. We're proud of what's not in our pans.
